Paper Choices for Laser Check Printing
With
security in mind, you can choose several options
of paper types to give yourself piece of mind
when printing your own checks.
There are many security features available
for laser checks. Depending on the amount of
risk you are willing to take with your checks,
many suppliers offer one feature, some of them
or the whole gambit. Some of the current
offerings include:
- Copy-Void Pantograph – When the check is
photocopied, the word “VOID” is visible
- Copy-Void Endorsement – When the check
is photocopied, the word “VOID” appears in
the endorsement field
- Gradient Two Color Pantograph – A
duo-color background that change density and
blend into each other, making it very
difficult to reproduce, even on a color
copier
- Simulated Watermark – Printed with white
ink, simulated watermarks reflect
differently than the base paper and can be
seen at an angle. Because the ink is white,
it cannot be photocopied or scanned
- Anti-Splice Backer – Horizontal or
diagonal lines printed on the back of the
check making it difficult to alter
information by the cut-and-paste
- Micro-printing – Words are printed so
small that they appear as a line to the
naked eye. Only when magnified are the
micro-printed words visible
- Non-Negotiable Stub Backer –
"Non-Negotiable" printed on the back of the
check stub to prevent fraudulent use of
check stock
- Padlock Security Icon – Located in two
places. On front of check, alerting the
teller that there are security features to
look for. On the bottom back of the check,
stating that there are additional security
features embedded within the check design.
- Warning Band – When this is on the
check, it alerts the teller to look for
certain security features before processing
the check.
- Thermo chromic Heat Reactive Ink –
Special temperature-sensitive ink that
causes the color to fade to white when held
between fingers
- Multi-Language Chemical Void – When
chlorine is used, the word "void" appears in
six languages, making it difficult to alter
- Solvent Reactive Color Spotting – Reacts
to polar and non-polar based solvents which
may be used to alter the paper, resulting in
a chemical stain
- Covert Fluorescent Fibers – Fibers are
added in the papermaking stage that are
invisible to the untrained eye, but "glow"
when held under an ultraviolet light.
- Overt Fibers -
- Fourdrinier True Watermark
- Endorsement Warning - "WARNING: THE BACK
OF THIS CHECK CONTAINS A SIMULATED
WATERMARK. HOLD AT 45 DEGREE ANGLE TO VIEW"
printed on the front of the check.
- Enhanced Toner Adhesion – Special
surface treatment used to enhance adhesion
of toner to paper. This feature makes
cleaning the paper much more difficult.
