Security Features of Laser Printed Checks
One of
the most important things you can do to protect
yourself from check fraud is to ensure your
checks are printed with a variety of security
features.
Check Security Features - Protecting Yourself
From Fraud
Security features on laser printed checks
include:
Void pantograph - A void
pantograph is a special background on the face
of a check that, when photocopied or scanned,
shows the word void in large characters or a
large void symbol across the face of the check.
Chemical Voids - Check paper that
is treated in a matter that is not detectable
until eradication chemicals contact the paper.
When the chemicals are applied, the word void
appears on the face of the check.
Invisible fibers and security ink
- These security fibers and inks are only
visible under black light, and are very
difficult to reproduce.
Tracing codes - Some checks offer
a tracing code feature, which is a unique code
printed on each new batch of checks.
Chemical protection - Checks that
employ chemical protection will have stains or
dye marks appear when eradication chemicals are
used to alter checks or remove printing and/or
writing.
Erasure protection - Any attempts
made to erase any part of the check will be
visibly obvious.
Watermarking - many checks employ
a watermarking technique that can only be viewed
at a proper angle. Watermarks can not be
duplicated by photocopying, scanning or
printing.
Micro printing - The lines on a
check, usually the signature line or the borders
of the check, are not opaque lines, but rather a
string of text that is so tiny it can not be
reproduced by a photocopier, scanner or printer.
Touch guard - The touch guard is a
symbol printed on the check using thermo
chromatic ink. Thermo chromatic ink changes
color when heated.
Toner Grip - Toner gripping is a
chemical coating that fuses the ink onto the
face of the check, so that it may not easily be
rubbed off or removed.
Foil Stamping - Metallic foil
stamps appear as non-shiny when checks are
scanned or photocopied..
Warning Band - A warning band or
symbol on the face of the check tells recipients
and bank tellers that the check has security
features.
